Castle in disrepair in the Castillon Park (Tarnos (40220), Landes (40), Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France). It was in 1900 that Jean-Ernest Labrouche had this castle built in place of an old bourgeois building. Until 1940, Castillon enjoyed a remarkable reputation in the region, known for its luxury and exceptional quality of life. Prominent figures, such as the King of Spain, Alphonse XIII, and the Sultan of Morocco, honored the castle with their presence. During the Second World War, the castle was occupied by German troops. Then, in 1951, the estate was put up for sale, and the following year, the Department of Ariège and the local section of the Pupils of the Public School acquired Castillon. This acquisition was made possible thanks to the commitment of teachers of the time, who generously contributed by donating a day's salary each. The holiday center of Castillon welcomed many children, initially from Ariège and then from all over France, benefiting from its enchanting setting. In 1955, a house for children was erected near the castle and operated throughout the school year. However, after a period of abandonment of about fifteen years, the estate became the property of the city of Tarnos in January 2006. The latter then undertook the restoration of the surrounding park.
