Covid Lockdown has seen re-emergence of Scurvy cases through vitamin deficient diet. This anti-scurvy recipe is from the extremely rare (as in only 3 copies still known to exist) 'The Cook's Pocket Companion, and Compleat Family-Guide' by Lydia Honeywood. 1758. Very much a domestic recipe book with a section of medical remedies, rather than a botanical or herbal medicine book. Scurvy was a major problem in many households throughout history, where there was a Vitamin C deficiency in the diet, and not corrected until Oranges and Lemons became widley available as booster Vitamin C sources. Prior to that 'Scurvy-Grass' - which belongs to the Mustard family - was a recommended source of Vit. C, as was Watercress, although most green vascular plants contain some Vit. C as do some seaweeds. Scurvy is a debilitating disease which can ultimately lead to death. So eat your greens... and fruit (smiley). I have left contextual page real-estate around image in case you need to give a more herbal medicine 'feel' to whatever you're doing, rather than just a sterile isolated cut-out.
