Cw 6406 A Boat working up Johnsons Hill locks 2.10.18 Part of the Leeds and Liverpool canal reopens. This was the scene at lock 61 on the Johnsons Hill lock flight on Tuesday the 2.10.18. The canal had reopened to boat traffic from the top of the Wigan flight to Gargrave on the Saturday before following a boost in water levels into the reservoirs that feed the canal from recent rainfall. This wide beam boat has now been able to set off on its journey to Burnley to have its bottom blacked. Due to the dry summer the reservoir’s feed the Leeds and Liverpool canal had become depleted to such an extent that the Canal and River Trust had to restrict lock usage on the length of canal from the bottom of the Wigan flight to Gargrave from Monday the 30th of July 2018.
