Volkswagen AG plans to produce a version of its newest Passat sedan in China as part of its comprehensive plan to ramp up local production there and broaden its product portfolio, the German automaker disclosed on Tuesday (27 September 2011). The Wolfsburg, Germany, company reiterated in a presentation to analysts that it posted on its website that it aims to expand in southern and western China as part of its global growth strategy. It plans to invest 14 billion euro (US$19.05 billion) in China between 2012 and 2016. The investments will be funded by Volkswagens local operations in China, the company said.
