The romantic setting of Beech tree avenue near Kingston Lacy in Dorset county, England , UK. A new line of trees has been planted by the National Trust to the outside of the current avenue to replace these ancient trees when they die. The Kingston Lacy beech tree avenue was originally devised by the hereditary owner of the estate (William John Bankes) as a gift to his mother. 365 trees on one side of the road and 366 on the other, designed to symbolise a regular year and a leap year. Work has begun to fell trees in a historic avenue in Dorset as part of a project to conserve the site. The avenue was planted in 1835 along what is now the B3082 near Wimborne Minster. The National Trust have been removing trees after some trees fell victim to disease, old age and previous neglect. In 2008 21 trees were removed, and diseased limbs have been removed from a further 160. The trees are being replaced with Hornbeams, which will look similar to the beeches but are more resilient.
