This image is exclusive to Alamy Some parts of Kinder Scout have suffered from damage due to the large number of walkers using the more popular paths, particularly on the southern edges. Part of the management of Kinder Scout by The National Trust has involved the re-routing and re-building of footpaths, frequently using stone flags. Kinder Scout is a peat bog moorland plateau on gritstone in the north of Derbyshire in England. It rises to a height of 636 metres (2, 087 ft) and is situated at the southern tip of the Pennines which run from Derbyshire to Scotland. In 1932 the then private moorland was the target of a mass trespass eventually leading to the creation of National Parks throughout Britain. Below the southern edges of Kinder Scout is the village of Edale where the Pennine Way, a long walk to Scotland, starts (or ends). Walking on Kinder Scout can be difficult, even dangerous in poor weather (which is not infrequent) but remains popular with walkers.
