During the ceremony in which he presented his Trophy Challenge Shield to the 4th Battalion the Wiltshire Regiment, Territorial Army (which won it in 1959 for the second year in succession). The Duke of Edinburgh's Trophy competition is entered annually by Regular and Territorial Army units of which the Duke is Colonel-in-Chief, Colonel or Honorary Colonel, or Captain-General. The Trophy is awarded to the team making the highest number of points in the competition. The Challenge Shield goes to the TA unit making the largest number of points. In the 1959 overall competition the 4th Wiltshires' were placed fifth. The contest is a test of marksmanship coupled with physical fitness and endurance
