The huge locomotive graveyard located at Thessaloniki in northern Greece where some seventy veterans once lay. Having modernized their railways, the Greeks mothballed a strategic reserve of steam locomotives in fear of a war with neighboring Turkey. This famous dump includes in the foreground, left, a former Austrian Empire type 2-10-0 whilst to the right is one of Major Marsh’s S160 2-8-0s built for the United States Army Transportation Corps during World War Two.
