It was from the "Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität" or Frederick William University library (todays Humboldt University) that some 20000 books by "degenerates" and opponents of the regime were taken to be burned publicly on May 10, 1933 on the Opernplatz (now the Bebelplatz).
