Image taken from 1872 revised version of 'A History of the Vegetable Kingdom' by William Rhind. Pub. Blackie & Son, Paternoster Row EC, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Believed to be out of copyright.... Some digital restoration has been done to image - surface blemishes corrected, ink spatter removed, some small paper tears mended, but most of all some colour saturation removed from the Orange and Yellow channels to compensate for 'Foxing' [the yellow-brown dark ageing of old paper]. Also raised brightness levels to lift the darkened old brown pages, which helps dampen print-through. What you have left is a finely engraved image about plant life. You may still see some faint print-through in the border areas, but this is obscured in the image area proper.
