Tablet on lychgate inscribed: HL / IH / Warden / 1722 (HL probably Hugh Lewis). Cropmarks in ripening barley in 2005 revealed a large enclosure, some 170m across, to the N, W & S of the church with additional enclosures along the S edge. The present churchyard clearly overlies the enclosures (it bisects the enclosure's SE side) which may belong to an Early Christian foundation of some importance. A C5th/6th inscribed stone has been re-used as a rear lintel to the N doorway. Baglan is an enigmatic saint (possibly two saints), reputedly one of the many followers of the C5th St Cadfan who moved into Wales from Brittany. St baglan's is in the care of the friends of friendless Churches.
