Sinclair Spectrum Next is a computer hardware project that is a reimplementation of the original ZX Spectrum home computer. Running NextBASIC which is an extended version of the classic Spectrum BASIC which adds extra commands supporting the new features of the ZX Spectrum Next. A powerful update to the original spectrum with more colourful User-defined graphics, which are custom graphics that can be created and used in ZX Spectrum Next programs. The ZX Spectrum Next is an 8-bit home computer that is compatible with software and hardware for the 1982 ZX Spectrum. It was initially released in 2017 and has enhanced capabilities. The project was started by Victor Trucco and Fabio Belavenuto, Spectrum enthusiasts who have been keeping all sorts of vintage hardware alive for the past 20 years. The firmware is named NextBASIC and is an extended version of the classic Spectrum BASIC which adds extra commands supporting the new features of the ZX Spectrum Next.. The machine is not directly affiliated with Sinclair Research Ltd., Sir Clive Sinclair or the current owner of the trademarks, Sky Group. The case design of the ZX Spectrum Next is by Rick Dickinson who designed the original 48K Spectrum and Spectrum+, but passed away during the development of the keyboard of the computer. The machine is intended to appeal to retrocomputing enthusiasts and to “encourage a new generation of bedroom coders”. Specifications of the Spectrum Next: Enhanced FPGA-based Z80 CPU running at 3.5MHz with additional turbo modes up to 28MHz Memory: 2048KB RAM (Kickstarter 2) and 1024KB RAM upgradeable to 2048KB RAM (Kickstarter 1) 640×256-pixel layered colour display capable of 512 colours, Digital (HDMI-compatible with audio) and combined VGA/RGB port, TurboSound Next (3xAY-3-8912 compatible sound generators), Two DB9 Joystick ports, PS/2 port external keyboard/mouse, ear and mic port for tape loading, expansion, Co-Processor: Raspberry PI, Wifi, Real Time Clock.
