The hill on which the ancient bell tower of the church dedicated to San Valerio stands is located in the lower area of Cavalese, not far from the Pieve park. The hill of San Valerio was frequented since the Iron Age, but it was in Roman times that significant masonry works were built both on the top and in the northern saddle. Subsequently, in medieval times, simple building structures were built on the ruins of Roman buildings. The title of the hill to San Valerio seems to date back to this period, when the Fiemme valley was dominated by the Franks, a people particularly devoted to San Valerio. In this panoramic area, the ancient village of Cadrubio was built, the first inhabited nucleus of the subsequent Cavalese, crowning the castle erected by the Enn - Kaldiff lords (nobles of Egna), but in the thirteenth century the fortification will become part of the County of Castello , controlled by the Counts of Tyrol.
