The West Coast Main Line or West Coast railway route runs between London Euston and Glasgow Central serving Watford, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Nuneaton, Shrewsbury, Stafford, Crewe, Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Blackpool, Preston, Oxenholme for the Lake District, Carlisle and Glasgow Central with some services also travelling east at Carstairs to serve Edinburgh Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley. Fast services are operated by Virgin Trains with electric titling trains known as Pendolinos that operate up to 125 mph. Diesel Voyagers supplement the electric fleet and are used on some services with all Chester services being diesel hauled as the line to and from Chester from Crewe is not electrified. The West Coast route is associated with the "Coronation Scot" a crack express service operated by the LMS railway company in the 1930's. The express used to run between London and Glasgow. The route is also featured in the iconic railway film 'Night Mail' which features narrations and poetry written by W H Auden. The route was also subject to the infamous "Great Train Robbery" in 1963 which took place near Cheddington in Buckinghamshire.
