An eclectic mix of powerful single seater racing cars from the 1970s and 1980s in a fitting tribute to the Silverstone Formula Libre races of the period and contesting the Derek Bell Trophy. Formula Libre was once a staple diet on the schedule of most national race meetings, bringing together a wide array of single seaters. Now, for the Silverstone Festival, the Historic Sports Car Club is reviving the concept with a grid of cars from the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Cars could come from Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 5000, Formula Atlantic, Formula 3, Formula Ford 2000, Formula Super Vee, Formula Renault, Formula Vauxhall Lotus and Formula 3000. With a cut-off date of 1990, the races are intended to tempt out cars that have not raced for some time, having had no suitable category, as well as cars that have raced in categories like Historic Formula 2.
