Chinese Go Chess prodigy Ke Jie has been admitted to Tsinghua University, according to the recommendation list released by General Administration of Sport, Chinanews.com reported on Tuesday (12 March 2019). Ke Jie is expected to enroll at the prestigious institution this fall, with a reported focus on business administration. However, the 21-year old has reportedly not decided on a major at this point, suggesting Go remains his top priority. Ke Jie holds the rank of 9 dan in Go, which is the equivalent of a Master in Chess. He became the world's top-ranked Go player in late 2014, and continues to maintain his position. Born in 1997, Ke Jie was first taught how to play Go in 2003 when he was 5-years old. He won his first national championship in 2007. Ke Jie won his first world title at the Bailing Cup in January 2015. Outside of Go circles, Ke Jie is best known for his matches against Google's AlphaGo, in which he lost all three games against the AI algorithm in May, 2017.
