Walmart plans to expand anti-corruption investigations at its Mexico operations to China as well, the Chinese-language China Business Journal reports. As for a report filed recently by Walmart with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company has launched anti-corruption investigations into allegations of potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in several countries and regions outside the United States, including Brazil, China and India. Sources told the journal that instances of bribery might have taken place during Walmarts attempts to get approval for opening new stores. Walmart China said it had invested US$25 million since it began strengthening the internal policy for its overseas operations in March 2011 to ensure it was in compliance with the FCPA.
