The Grupello fountain, erected in 1743, stands in the middle of the square. This was created in 1711 by Gabriel Grupello for Elector Johann Wilhelm and was first in Düsseldorf . It represents an allegory of the triumph of princely virtues over vices and the unveiling of truth through time. At the base of the pyramid are four allegorical representations at the corners: Justitia ( Latin : Justice) in the form of Elector Johann Wilhelm Prudentia (Latin: wisdom) with a mirror as a sign of self-knowledge Temperantia (Latin: moderation), pours water into the wine Fortitudo (Latin: bravery), with a sword in his right hand and chains in his left In addition, the four main rivers of the Electoral Palatinate ( Rhine , Neckar , Moselle and Danube ) are depicted as river gods.
