Altre informazioni:
Morgantina is an ancient Sicilian and Greek city and archaeological site in the territory of Aidone, an Italian municipality of the free municipal consortium of Enna in Sicily. The city was unearthed in the fall of 1955 by the archaeological mission of Princeton University (United States). Excavations to date make it possible to follow the development of the settlement over a period of about a millennium, from prehistoric to Roman times. The most easily visited area, fenced off by the relevant superintendency, preserves remains from the mid-5th to late 1st century B.C., the city's heyday. From this site come such important archaeological finds as the Goddess of Morgantina (sometimes erroneously called "Venus"), currently housed at the archaeological museum in Aidone to which it arrived on March 17, 2011 after a dispute between Italy and the United States where it was on display at the Getty Museum in Malibu, and the Treasure of Morgantina, also returned.
