Blimp is a powered, steerable, lighter-than-air vehicle whose shape is maintained by the pressure of the gases within its envelope. G-TLEL blimp was actually an A60+ Lightship, one of a fleet of airships operated by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, used mainly for advertising and filming live sporting events. The term blimp itself is defined as a non-rigid airship – without any internal structure, the pressure of lifting gas contained within the airship envelope maintains the vessel's shape. Spirit of Safety I [pictured] was built by American Blimp Corporation registered as G-TLEL and owned and operated by Lightship Europe Limited. It is seen in flight over the Shropshire Countryside from Halfpenny Green during one of its promotional flights during a European tour. Sadly this blimp was written off two months after these photos were taken at a folk festival in Germany.
