After the police brutality at the G20 protests at Bank and the Climate Camp in Bishopsgate, protesters gathered at New Scotland Yard for a demonstration. As well as those who had organised the G20 protests, others voiced complaints about police activity at other protests in particular against those protesting against the Gaza attacks as well as other recent demonstrations. Speakers called for the disbanding of the Territorial Support Group and for an end to the tactic of "kettling" - penning groups of people in areas for long periods of time without facilities - which appears to be used more as a way to discourage protest and provide an entirely arbitrary low-level punishment than as a proper policing tactic. The organisers had flouted the laws governing demonstrations in the area around parliament (although it was not in session) and at one point it looked as if there might be a violent reaction from some demonstrators when a police officer issued a warning over the loudspeaker on a police van that they were all liable to be arrested. The boundary of the area governed by the restrictions on demonstration runs down the centre of the road on which the demonstration was being held.
