Atmospheric, Winter shot of the Mansion from across the Golf Course in Beckenham Place Park, Lewisham. Beckenham Place Mansion was built by John Cator a wealthy landowner, in the 1770's. It is now used as the golf club house and park information centre.It is a Grade II listed building at Beckenham Place Park, Lewisham. This Public Park, is the largest green space in the borough covering 96 hectares, with large areas of ancient woodland ideal for informal woodland walks. The park is an important wildlife site and it also makes up part of the South East London Green Chain Walk and the regional Capital Ring. Tennis, golf and football are all played here. The Mansion was built for John Cator circa 1770, parts of the house and the Doric columns of the portico, were taken from a house he purchased and demolished at Blackheath (Gregory Page Turner's Wricklemarsh). The family eventually sold their lands in Beckenham, much of it for housing development, as they had done with Wricklemarsh at Blackheath. The Stable Block (Homesteads) is thought be contemporary with the Mansion, the clock is said to have come from 'Clock House' Beckenham. It was made or installed in the 1730's having been overhauled in the late 18th century
