More than 700 people were stranded, Saturday 27 July 2002, after it broke down on the River Clyde. The Waverley, which was rebuilt at a cost of 4m two years ago, encountered problems at 1.20pm near Toward Point. A total of 689 passengers and 26 crew were on board the historic vessel as it sailed from Glasgow to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
