Weather forecasters warned that the situation would probably get worse over the next 48 hours with more rain on its way. 13/11/02 : Engineers are tesing the nation's first demountable 3 million flood barriers, which will protect the town's residents and businesses from the deluges they have suffered in recent years. Experts from the Environment Agency are assembling the 3m barriers on the river as part of a two-day simulation exercise to see how well staff are trained to respond to a real disaster. When not in use, Bewdley's pioneering flood barriers will be stored in nearby Kidderminster. As soon as the flood alarm is raised, they can be transported to the quayside near Bewdley town centre and bolted onto special base plates.
