Two of Britain's classic aircrafts designed by Roy Chadwick: The Lancaster and the fully restored Avro Vulcan at the Biggin Hill airshow. The Lancaster Bomber is the only fully operational version in Britain The AVRO Vulcan was designed by Roy Chadwick who also designed the famous Lancaster and later Lincoln 4-engined bombers of the 1940’s. - Vulcan XH558 was the first B2 version to enter service with the RAF in July 1960 and the last to fly before retirement in 1992 when operated by the Vulcan Display Flight. - The Vulcan was the only V-bomber to undertake operational bombing sorties. These were during the Falklands campaign in 1982 when squadron aircraft flew five missions, a round-trip flight to the South Atlantic of 7, 700 miles. - During RAF service life, Vulcan aircraft were operated by 617 ‘Dambuster’ squadron who celebrated the 66th anniversary of the Dams raid earlier this month.
