Tibetan Chinese peasant woman tilling ground in smallholding in Mounigou valley near Songpan in Sichuan Province China JMH3474. After the crowds and expense of the entrance fees to JiuzHaiGou and Huanglong, visitors to north Sichuan may want to visit a quiet unspoilt Gulug (Yellow Hat) Tibetan valley. Mounigou is just such a valley, located to the west of the town of Songpan. Here you will see real people tilling their fields and going about their normal peasant lives and may even be invited into a private home to take 'cha' (tea). Your hosts will be unlikely to accept any money from you. The best way to visit Mounigou is to make a deal with a taxi driver in Songpan. Alternatively, if you have a few days to spare, take a horse riding expedition. Unfortunately, two areas (Zhaga Waterfall and Erdoahai Scenic Area) have already been developed as tourist spots with a 140 Yuan (£14) combined admission charge. However you are unlikely to see many - if any - other tourists.
