How films are made - No. 14 of a series of 25 - The Sound control Room. One of a series of cigarette cards illustrating movie making given away by B. Morris & Sons of London in the early 1930s. Cigarette card original size 6.7 x 3.7 cm. Version here suitable for reproduction up to 35.5 x19.2 cm at 300 pixels per inch. The cards were printed lithographically - not half-tone - which gives them a beautiful vintage texture. The description on the back of the card states: "THE SOUND CONTROL ROOM. The Camera which 'photographs' the sound is isolated in a sound-proof control room. through a thick plate glass window the operator can observe the 'action' on the set. Earphones enable him to hear the sound and dialogue and regulate recording. The 'sound' camera and the 'picture' camera filming the scene are operated by a synchronised electric drive. The illustration is of a scene from the film ‘The Good Companions, ’ viewed from the Sound Control Room." "Facilities for the preparation of this series granted by Gaumont-British Picture Corporation Ltd."
