It's by Bernabé Gómez del Río and was put in place in the mid of the bridge in the 17th century. The gate at the end of the bridge is the Puerta del Puente, a 16th century reconstruction by the architect Hernán Ruiz II (1572). Between the bridge and the Mezquita the Centro de Recepción de Visitantes, the new visitor's center on the Plaza del Triunfo can be seen. (Architect: Juan Cuenca compl 2013) On the left of the gate there is the column of St. Raphael's Triumph, the Triunfo de San Rafael, on the Plaza del Triunfo. The great column that supports the Archangel is raised on a tower which foundations are on a grotto. Symbols of the underworld, the earthly and the divine life.
