An £80m regeneration project which is transforming an infamous London housing estate into a thriving community today reached a major milestone when the demolition of the last remaining tower block got underway. Residents came together to celebrate as a monster muncher started to bring down the final 12 storey tower block, marking a historic moment for the Rainham estate, which achieved notoriety in recent years having appeared in the films Made in Dagenham and Fish Tank. Orchard Village ñ previously known as the Mardyke Estateñ was a 1960s high rise estate that over time became dilapidated and a haunt for anti social behaviour. The estateís reputation for crime meant that no one on the housing list of over 4, 000 wanted to live there, resulting in flats remaining empty.
