Pic shows Lola Ward, 5, picking tulips in a field near King's Lynn, Norfolk as the hottest temperatures of the year so far have brought the plants out to flower. The beautiful tulips in Britain's last remaining bulbfields are flourishing in the Spring sunshine today (Tues) as the UK looks forward to the hottest day of the year so far. The stunning mass of red, yellow, pink and purple blooms look like they belong in the heart of Holland but in fact the field is near King's Lynn in Norfolk. The flowers at family-run Belmont Nurseries have added an incredible splash of colour to the UK countryside as temperatures are expected to exceed 23C today (Tues) and 25C tomorrow (Wed). Experts at the Met Office say the tropical maritime air from the south west will combine with high pressure to see temperatures soaring to more than double the average for this time of year. It follows a similar spell last week, which saw temperatures top 21.9C in St James's Park in London on Friday and has helped to boost the beautiful tulip crop, which is around three weeks late this year. "We are having a later Spring this year and the tulip crop is around two to three weeks behind, " said farmer Mark Eves.
