The former Great North of Scotland Railway building. Braemar, is shown in 2011, being refurbished prior to being sold. The Great North of Scotland Railway (GNSR/GNoSR) was one of the smaller Scottish railways before the grouping, operating in the far north-east of the country. It was formed in 1845 and received its Parliamentary approval on June 26, 1846, following over two years of local meetings. In 1923 it was absorbed into the London and North Eastern Railway as its Northern Scottish area. The Company operated an omnibus service between Ballater and Braemar. The service commenced on 2 May 1904 and transferred to W Alexander & Sons on 1 July 1930. From 1 November 1908, a specially designated "Mail" road motor service was introduced, involving the use of an adapted mail omnibus. The operation of the service reverted to a horse-drawn conveyance between 7 December 1912 and 1 May 1913. exclusive, during road repairs.
