Altre informazioni:
Nuisance flies clustering round around the eye of a cow on a hot summer day. Face flies are a pasture pest that is hard to control. The flies use an abrasive sponging mouthpart to stimulate tear flow from the eyes and then lap up the protein rich secretions as well as nasal discharges, saliva, or blood oozing from wounds. The flies play a role in the transmission of cattle ailments, especially New Forest Eye (Moraxella bovis) and Summer Mastitis (Hydrotea irritans).
