The now closed Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport, Hampshire and the last hospital to have had military status. Once known as The Royal Military Hospital Haslar. In 2007 the military status was withdrawn and subsequently the building closed in 2009. The medical services at Haslar were relocated to the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and the site sold to developers. Originally built between 1746 and 1761, the site opened as a Royal Navy hospital in 1753 and has provided a long and distinguished service of medical care to service personnel both in peacetime and in times of war. More recently it has gained notoriety within the world of the Urban Explorer, who like most take the risk to document and archive through the means of photography the many listed buildings in this now designated a Grade II listed historic park.
