Greyfriars Bobby's Bar in Candlemaker Row Edinburgh. Bobby was a Skye Terrier in 19th-century Edinburgh his fame came from (according to the myth) spending 14 years watching the grave of his owner, John Gray. His fame was enhanced when his story became the subject of a novel in 1912, a Disney movie in 1961 and numerous other films and publications. The statue dates from shortly after his death in 1872. An alternative interpretation of the story postulates that Bobby was a publicity stunt organised by local businessmen of the day and there may in fact have been more than one dog involved over the years.
