This image is exclusive to Alamy De Montfort Hall was built by the Corporation of Leicester at a cost of £21, 000 to the design of architect Shirley Harrison (1876–1961) and was completed in 1913. The auditorium has a seating capacity of approximately 2000, contains a restored pipe organ thought to be the only surviving example of a large concert organ constructed by the Leicester organ builders, Stephen Taylor & Son Ltd. The programme of events ranges from jazz, ballet, comedy and opera, to world and roots music, West End musicals and classical music. The Philharmonia Orchestra has been resident at the hall since 1997, and is also a common venue for the Leicester Philharmonic Choir and the Leicester Symphony Orchestra. The sculpture at the entrance to the hall is ‘Concerto’ by Dr John Sydney Carter which was inspired by instruments from the orchestra and celebrates classical music at Leicester's De Montfort Hall.
