Altre informazioni:
The Cresent, Salford with University of Salford Maxwell building prominent in the right foreground and the older but grander university Peel Hall building (centre mid-distance). In the distant background are the high rise flats of the 1960s. The two buildings symbolise very different aspects of the Borough with the University representing education, renewal and prospective affluence on one side and the high rise flats a very present reminder of the Salford urban population with many social problems and little prospect of advancement. The Crescent itself is part of the A6, once the major trunk route from north-west England to London and still a significant commuter route into Manchester from Bolton and beyond . A redesign of the road layout has just been completed, including traffic calming measures such as speed-humped pedestrian crossings, in an effort to encourage traffic to use other routes into the city.
