Many people have mistaken the golden building located on the left of the temple compound as a place for worship. In fact, it is a Public Restroom!!! It is the only building entirely covered with gold leaf and tastefully decorated with pieces of gold-coloured glass. The White Temple or Wat Rong Khun created by Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat, one of Thailand's most renowned artists, who wanted to build a temple all in white to signify the purity of Lord Buddha. It is one of the most beautiful temples in Northern Thailand and has become a national iconic landmark in the country, attracting an increasingly large number of visitors every year to Chiang Rai province.
