The cab side of A4 Pacific 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' on show at Railfest 2012 at the National Railway Museum in York. The A4 Pacifics were designed by Nigel Gresley, the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway. 60007 entered service in 1937 for use on the East Coast main line England to Scotland express trains. With the advent of modernisation, most were scrapped by 1966, six example fo the class being preserved - four in the UK, one in Canda and one in the USA. The locomotive is in operational condition and is based at the North Yorkshire Moors heritage railway. Railfest 2012 is a 9 day, one-off event where the normal exhibits of the National Railway Museum have been supplemented by visiting historical locomotives, rolling stock and other railway items drawn from heritage railways and other museums all around the country. Some 34, 000 visitors came to the event to see famous histroical engines such 'Sir Nigel Gresley', 'City of Truro', 'Flying Scotsman' and the more recently built A1 pacific class locomotive 'Tornado.
