Helmsley is a market town and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the River Rye, at the junction of the A170 and the B1257 and both the Cleveland Way and Ebor Way begin here. The town sits on the southern boundary of the North York Moors National Park which passes through Helmsley along the A170 road - the western part of the town is therefore within the National Park. It is in fact, the only market town in the North York Moors National Park! In 2015 it was crowned best market town high street in Britain. The Royal Oak Hotel overlooks the town's market square. This quaint pub with rooms, was built in the middle of the19th century and lies a 1-minute walk from Helmsley Castle.
