Flooding in South Yorkshire England The village Catcliff 27th June 2007 About 100 homes in the villages of Catcliffe Whiston and Canklow were evacuated by police officers during the night of the 5th of June Water was pumped out of the nearby 35 acre Ulley reservoir and into the river Don south of Rotherham after engineers signalled a warning over the dam wall The excess of water from rain and the pumped out water made the river Don and the drains overflow and flooded much of the village Many villagers felt they had been sacrified with most of the rescue efforts concentrated on saving the reservoir having said that had the the dam burst the village could have washed away entirely Many of the residents who left their homes were taken to the safety of nearby Dinnington Comprehensive School The flooded streets of Catcliff The water is now receeding but several houses are still under much water Only the roof tops of cars parked in the drive way can be seen
