The Panto Season has started and Blackpool theatre-goers are in for a real treat as The Grand's offering - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a magical evening for all the family. Andrew Ryan's script sparkles and features contemporary jokes and references, including current music such as ‘One Direction’ and ‘Burno Mars’ keeping really up to date and ‘in with the kids’ who respond enthusiastically throughout. The set and costumes are wonderfully colourful - providing audiences with beautiful backdrops and fabulous frocks. Add to this a small but perfectly formed orchestra of three lead by James McCullagh - the music and sound effects are perfect and add extra zing, when required. The cast are also spot on with former Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle as the Wicked Queen who clearly relishes her role and hams it up beautifully, looks amazing and lives up to the name of the character with ease. Steve Royle's Muddles highlights that this actor is a born performer and this is his first ever Pantomime! He displays perfect comic timing, great juggling skills and is a natural with children, to boot. Steve Royle and Martin Pemberton are a dynamic duo who work incredibly well together keep the audience involved, laughing along with them. Jenny Jones as title character - Snow White, is ever so beautiful with a lovely pure voice and proves to be perfect casting. She is ably matched by newcomer Ben Irish as her Prince and he too has a wonderful voice but I wish we could of heard more of his singing! The Seven dwarfs are all excellent, although the delightful Jamie John stands out in a crowd as he is full of character and life and looks like he is having so much fun which is infectious as he worked his magic on me. The ensemble and young dancers show enthusiasm throughout and work well together.
