A train of the District Line of the London Underground where major repair work is to be carried out this Summer between Whitechapel in east London to Earl's Court in the west. The tube driver of a train that took members of the media to the areas where work will be carried out, Clynt Sandford, of Lewes, East Sussex, expressed his concerns about the safety and condition of the Underground, saying The Tube was in "a terrible state" and had got worse over recent years. Bob Thorogood, the General Manager of the District Line of the London Underground said sections of the line would incur speed limits, some of 10mph, because of the poor standard of track with a section of the District line, and the whole of the Circle line, being shut for a total of 17 weekends over the next few months so track, ballast and sleepers can be repaired.
