Altre informazioni:
The Mahamuni Buddha Temple, located in Mandalay, Myanmar, is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site and one of the most revered temples in the country. The temple is home to the sacred Mahamuni Buddha image, which is believed to be one of only five likenesses of Buddha created during his lifetime. This highly venerated statue attracts numerous devotees who come to pay their respects and make offerings, including applying gold leaf to the statue. The Mahamuni Buddha image, also known as Maha Myat Muni, is thought to have been cast in the 1st century CE in the ancient Arakan Kingdom, which is now part of modern-day Rakhine State in Myanmar. The image stands approximately 12.5 feet (3.8 meters) tall and is seated on a pedestal, adorned with a crown and other royal regalia. Over time, the continuous application of gold leaf by male devotees has resulted in a thick layer of gold on the statue, giving it a unique appearance. The temple complex features traditional Burmese architecture and houses several other Buddha statues and religious artifacts. Visitors can also observe murals depicting scenes from Buddha's life and teachings. In addition to its spiritual significance, the Mahamuni Buddha Temple serves as a center for the study of Buddhist scripture and meditation. The temple is easily accessible from downtown Mandalay and is open daily for visitors and worshippers alike.
