I've had a run of bad luck with my car and gigs of late so it was a bit of a surprise to find myself fixing the car on a Saturday with no gig to go too, then my phone went. A fellow photographer asking if I could cover Mike Peters of The Alarm fame at The Brook in Southampton for him.Feeling the world had returned to its normal shape. I got washed up and headed off to go shoot a show. Through the years and his fight with cancer, Mike has lost none of the energy or zeal that he puts into a performance. He still belts out songs and still has the fight to put across what he has to say and get you to pay attention. The first set started strong getting the crowd going straight away and kept them bouncing all the way through. The second set is a recreation of the Spirit of 86 Live broadcast performance down to female MTV Presenter impersonation and changing mic's to cover the places of different singers. That might sound a little pretentious but it was all done with a sense of humor and added a little fun to the night. The crowd absolutely loved the show and was singing and dancing away. There was some use of backing tracks, but it was done well and done as backing with the main force being the guitar and Mikes voice which still sounds as good now as it did back in 86. The Welsh rocker has still got the magic and is well worth catching if you get the chance.
