Ronald Kunis formerly chef at Amsterdam restaurant De Kas of international fame, has started his own new restaurant Bij (at) Qunis in this historic monument in May 2015. Pump house Gemaal De Lynden on the outskirts of Amsterdam. (Pump house in Dutch is gemaal.) The new and old historic pump houses at Lijnden in the Haarlemmermeer the Dutch polder between Amsterdam and Haarlem. The historic building on the right is the original Gemaal De Lynden, which has functioned with different pumps between 1847 and 2005 when it was closed down and the new pump house on the left took over the job and the name. The old pump house has been restored and now houses the fine dining restaurant Qunis. These are the pumps that keep Amsterdam Schiphol Airport dry. The airport including all runways lies below sea level; the lowest point is at around 3.5m/11ft below sea level. It is not 6m below sea level as local folklore has it. Polders of those depths are near Rotterdam. [info in Dutch: www.restaurant qunis.nl]
