Bedfordshire will be the first force in the country to use a new style baton gun similar to weaponry used by police in Northern Ireland. It is the first time police in mainland UK will have carried weapons which are less lethal than ordinary firearms, but more powerful than CS Spray. 11/07/02 : The Police Complaints Authority has called for the weapons - which fire plastic bullets - to be introduced in forces nationwide so that police officers have a range of less lethal options. Baton guns have already been introduced in a number of mainland police forces and have so far been fired twice, the first occasion being in North Wales in February this year.
