Altre informazioni:
The "Madres / Mothers de la Plaza de Mayo" initially began meeting in Plaza de Mayo during the military dictatorship of 1976-83 in an attempt to try to discover what had happened to their missing children/relatives - its estimated around 30, 000 people were "disappeared", tortured and killed during the period, the worst military repression ever seen in Argentina. They still continue, as much to demand justice for those responsible (only recently in 2005, has an amnesty against leaders from that period been revoked) as to discover their (still unknown) whereabouts. They have also developed into an institution for general political protests as well as making sure past events are never forgotten. The building in the background is the Presidential Palace or Casa Rosada
