All-Irish environmental and social justice movement Gluaiseacht came to London for a St Patrick's Day protest at the Shell HQ at Waterloo. They were protesting about the Corrib Gas Project in Mayo in the north-west of Ireland, which involves Shell, Statoil and Marathon - with most of the profits going to Shell. A high pressure pipelie will take the gas to an inland refinery in Mayo, leading to pollution and risk to local communities. Protests against the scheme in Ireland have led to people being jailed. Around 30 Irish protesters and some local supporters held a lively and good-natured protest outside the Shell offices close to Waterloo station, with singing and dancing and a very large pipeline. They were watched by Shell security men and police, including a Forward Intelligence Team (FIT) with a photographer taking pictures of demonstrators and press.
