The sequence was recorded at a Fire safety awareness day by the Heston & Feltham fire service. The demonstration is designed to show people what NOT to do if confronted by a small oil fire (normally a chip pan). Emphasis was made of the effect this would have in an enclosed environment such as a kitchen. The final flames reached 3 metres in height. The sequence starts with an out of shot Fireman pouring water (using a 3m long rod with a cup sized container of water on the end) into a pan containing very hot cooking oil which had just caught fire. The covered pan had been left on a burner for several minutes, simulating an unattended chip pan.
