Thousands of Tibetans followed H.H. the Dalai Lama to India into exile, fleeing from the forceful occupation of Tibet by the Red Chinese. The Govt. of India very kindly provided, not only basic rehabilitation to the Tibetan refugees but also facilitated schools separate for the Tibetan children as envisaged by H.H. the Dalai Lama. The need for separate schools for the Tibetans was felt to preserve their unique culture, language and impart modern education. During the early days of the exile-situation, due to many hardships, parents started withdrawing their children from school to earn some extra money by making them work at any odd job. This problem caused concern to the Govt. thus prompting them to encourage and inspire the parents to shoulder some of the responsibility to educate the future of Tibet. This motivated Mr. Dawa Tsering a Tibetan youth to initiate a school in 1984.
